New runners
Everything you need to know before your first club night.
Welcome
We meet at The Railway pub, near Rose Hill Station, from 6:45pm every Monday and Wednesday (not Bank Holidays). The run briefing starts at 7pm, followed by a warm-up and setting off.
Your first run
- You're welcome to come and try a session. Get in touch through the Facebook group or email newrunner@marplerunners.com with the date you plan to come.
- Someone from the club will meet you, say hello and make sure you have what you need before you set off.
- After the new runners briefing you'll meet your Tail Runner. If you like, we'll try to pair you with someone of a similar pace.
- Your first run is free. After that it's £1 a run for members or £2 for non-members.
- Club nights usually offer two routes, about 5k and about 10k. Both suit every pace, and a tail runner always comes along so nobody runs alone.

Training sessions Coached by CiRF & LiRF
The club has qualified CiRF (Coaches in Running Fitness) and LiRF (Leaders in Running Fitness) who run courses and sessions for members all year.
Sessions include intervals and speedwork, and hills. Each has a warm-up, drills, technique work and a cool-down, and they suit all abilities.
Training sessions are for members only and are booked through RunTogether (free to join). The RunTogether Runner app lets you book and see sessions.
Coaching questions: coaching@marplerunners.com. The monthly calendar also has social-focused runs, often paired with a social event.
Beyond club nights
- Jeffing. Coaches and Run Leaders run a run/walk session on club nights using Jeff Galloway's method, which lots of runners prefer.
- The Equaliser. A staggered-start 5k along the Middlewood Way that levels the field across abilities, usually followed by prizes and a social at The Railway. Details go out on social media.
- Club Championships. A varied series of races for members.
- Cross Country. We're members of the Manchester Area Cross Country League. There's also a curry night, for XC runners only.
- Weekend 24hr runs. We enter teams in Equinox24 and other events depending on interest, as individuals or relay teams.
- MR 10k Trail Race & Fun Run. Our annual club race in June. Members are encouraged to volunteer or marshal: 10K@marplerunners.com.
- Social events. Quiz nights, social runs, Christmas parties, time trials and the annual Celebration Evening.
- Club kit. Buying kit is optional. Have a look in the club shop.
- Volunteering. Tail running on weekly runs, and helping organise events like the MR Trail Race and Time Trial.
